Dark theme | Customise your Wikipedia colour-theme on desktop

Hi everyone, follow these steps to customise your Wikipedia color-theme.

  1. Log in to your Wikipedia account.

  2. Go to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets

  3. Under Appearance, check the "Dark mode toggle: Enable a toggle for using a light text on dark background color scheme" and save the changes. If you do not find this option, go to Beta page and turn on all beta options and save changes.

  4. Go to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MyPage/common.js and click on create common.js

  5. Then paste this custom code into the code area and publish. The following code makes Wikipedia color theme to adapt to your system settings.

  1. Then go to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MyPage/common.css and click on create common.css

  2. Then paste this custom code into the code area and publish. The following code makes basic HTML elements turn into a dark color theme. This is necessary because the default dark theme available on Wikipedia does not make proper job of theming certain basic elements like scroll bar, dropdowns and so on.

color-scheme: light dark;

}

  1. That's it. Whenever you visit any Wikipedia page you will see it in the color theme that matches with your color theme preferences in your browser settings.

Bonus tip

  • To change the font in Wikipedia, go to edge://settings/fonts or chrome://settings/fonts and select your font preferences.
